Sudoku-Light magazine with Conceptis puzzles launched in Netherlands

Monday, September 12, 2005 Sudoku Light

Sudoku-Light, a monthly magazine containing Sudoku puzzles by Conceptis, will be launched by Puzzelsport in the Netherlands on September 14, 2005. Puzzelsport, a division of Sanoma Uitgevers, has been Conceptis’ publisher in the Netherlands since 1999.

Sudoku-Light is a 64 page 12x16 cm pocket size magazine, containing easy puzzles and targeted at first time puzzlers. The regular street price will be 2,20 Euro and the first issue will be sold at a special introduction price of 1,80 Euro.

The global Sudoku boom has definitely reached the Netherlands this summer: newspapers, magazines, radio stations and television networks are all reporting about it as the latest hit. Within a two week period in early July, Puzzelsport as well as two of their competitors have launched dedicated Sudoku magazines. At the same time two national newspapers in the Netherlands have also started publishing their own daily Sudoku.

In July 2005 Puzzelsport launched the first monthly Sudoku magazine which contained puzzles by Nikoli, Japan’s leading puzzle house and the company that introduced Sudoku to the Japanese market back in 1984. Sudoku-Light will now become Puzzelsport’s second regular Sudoku magazine, with the goal of introducing as many newbies as possible to this wonderful puzzle.

“Although no final sales figures for Sudoku are yet known, all indicators are pointing out it will be a huge success. This is the main reason why Puzzelsport decided to start a second monthly Sudoku magazine” says Rob Geensen, Editor in Chief at Puzzelsport Netherlands. “There are lots of Sudoku sources on the market today. We chose to work with Conceptis because we found their Sudoku puzzles to be of high quality with a lot of fun to play, and we have been very happy with our last 5 year’s collaboration on publishing Japanse Puzzels (Pic-a-Pix), Zoekplaatjes (Link-a-Pix) and Mozaiek (Fill-a-Pix)”
