Tsuper News: Tsuper Tsunami now a bi-monthly magazine in the UK

Monday, October 6, 2003 Tsuper Tsunami

In view of its continuing success, WHSmith, the exclusive UK retailer for Tsuper Tsunami, together with Puzzler Media Limited (formerly named BEAP) will be publishing Tsuper Tsunami magazine on a bi-monthly basis. Thus, subscribers to this unique magazine will increase their large-format puzzle availability by 50 percent each year.

On August 9, 2002, following the success of TSUNAMI magazine, WHSmith and Puzzler Media Publishing announced the publication of TSUPER TSUNAMI - a new quarterly large-format magazine dedicated to Conceptis' puzzles. This 40 large-grid puzzle magazine marketed under WHSmith’s brand became an immediate hit in the UK. It is this success and the readers demand for more puzzles that led WHSmith and Puzzler Media Limited into increasing the publication frequency.

According to Trevor Truran, editor of TSUNAMI and TSUPER TSUNAMI, the decision on making TSUPER TSUNAMI a bi-monthly magazine has been made due to "many requests received from TSUPER TSUNAMI readers for more puzzles, as a quarterly ratio simply doesn't satisfy their craving for larger, more challenging puzzles". In addition to a solid body of B&W PAP puzzles, TSUPER TSUNAMI also includes five 2-color PAP puzzles and a few LAP puzzles, as well as an opportunity for its buyers to send their own puzzle creation to the publisher and win £20 in WHSmiths vouchers.

Featuring SUMO SIZED Puzzles!

The name TSUNAMI, which was created by Puzzler Media Limited, has become very popular for these puzzles both in the UK and abroad. Therefore, to differentiate the new large size format from the smaller sized traditional TSUNAMI; Puzzler Media has decided to name this magazine TSUPER TSUNAMI. And to make all this absolutely clear, the magazine’s front cover has the following slogan: “Featuring SUMO SIZED Puzzles!”

This change means that from now on WHSmith will have two picture-forming logic puzzle magazines on sale every month as Tsuper Tsuper will alternate with Enigma (LAP puzzles) and that all three types of puzzle (PAP, LAP and FAP) will be published regularly.

According to Dave Green, Conceptis' founder and president, "the fact that TSUPER TSUNAMI has been recognized as a successful large-format magazine in the UK will now serve as a good reference for other countries, which only publish in small format; such as USA, France, Finland and Hungary".

TSUPER TSUNAMI is available in the UK exclusively through WHSmith retail outlets and by subscriptions from Puzzler Media Limited. Conceptis' International fans who are interested in a subscription to TSUPER TSUNAMI are welcome to to contact Puzzler Media from Conceptis' Worldwide Subscriptions page.

  • "It exists in our dreams, I think! I've been around all the Central London and City branches, even the little ones at railway stations, without any joy. I've posted a query on the WHS website and will let you know when they come back to me" (Mal, United Kingdom, August 14, 2002)
  • "WHS have said that Tsuper Tsunami was supposed to be in stores by now, and another batch would be distributed on Friday 30th" (orgasner, Israel, August 22, 2002)
