OCTO is a brand new, patent-pending puzzle that combines elements of Sudoku, elements of Kakuro, and something else entirely.

For instructions and sample puzzles, go to http://home.comcast.net/~douglasdgardner/site/ or the "OCTO" Fan Page on Facebook.

I'm very interested in Forum feedback...

The heck?  This is definitely an interesting idea, one I've never seen.

Quite interesting, I'll have to see how the samples work for me.

Looks interesting, but can you play it online somewhere?

No, not yet. I'm working on it. I'm afraid it's paper and pencil in the meantime...

These are really fun! I'm stuck on the "very hard" one at the back of the second collection :)

Thanks for the feedback!

"Very Hard" OCTOs can be pretty time-consuming (believe me, I know)! The best advice I can give is to be very persistent. There are some helpful tips and techniques in the "How To OCTO" file on the website, if you haven't already checked that out.

Keep at it and let me know if you want any specific help...

Figuring out how to do it is the fun part for me :)  I usually only do a certain kind of puzzle until I'm good at it, and then I get bored.

This thread has been going for about a month and I was hoping to use this forum to get a sense of the "puzzling community" on the viability of the OCTO as a major new puzzle type. Anybody have any initial impressions/additional feedback to add? Would you want to see OCTO puzzles in a newspaper? Would you buy a book of OCTOs? How about an electronic version?

Thanks!

I am afraid that people are so stuck to their own favourite puzzles that only few have tried them.
I have to admit I did not.

I love to see all kinds of puzzles in newspapers :)
I also have the habit of buying different books of puzzles. However the books that have different types  are the best for me in the number puzzles category. I can choose the type according to my mood and level of concentration :)

If you have been following the other thread about Chain Sudoku, you might want to reconsider posting your topic here.  You clearly invented this puzzle.  I have never seen anything like it anywhere else.  I would love to see that you get a patent, or copyright or anything else you might need to make money from your invention.  My fear is that someone else will now write a computer program that can create your puzzles and sell them as their own invention.  Please protect your property!!!

Live long and prosper!
