News about PicPuz: I assembled a new setup package with version 0.99 build 61. See first posting on the first page of this thread ;-) Only changes: WebLoader works better again and I used a new (better) Installer tool.

Tried it, its great. Is there any chance of a colour pap solver? Or where you can play maps? Mark

Playing MAPs would be great. I'll wait for the next version given the potential warnings about this one. I rarely solve online; I convert, print, and play. Cyclone

I once posted a question about why this program would close itself every time I tried to open a puzzle on a particular computer. I finally figured it out, and wanted to share. Someone else had installed Windows Chinese language fonts and capability on the PC. When I completely deinstalled the Chinese, then the PicPuz program works like a charm. Based on posts I've seen elswhere with problems with some other programs, it seems that some programs don't work when you have East Asian languages installed. Figuring out to deinstall when I hadn't done the install was a trick. In the Control Panel "Regional and Language Options", you have to go to the third tab "Advanced" (and in my case, wait -- else it seems to just display the first tab for a while) and switch to a non-East-Asian language (English United States in my case). Apply -- and reboot. Then on the second tab "Languages" of that Control Panel, the "Install files for East Asian languages" is un-greyed-out. Then you can remove the checkmark and "Apply". Then when you reboot, the East Asian languages are uninstalled. Then, PicPuz worked again for me!

Thank your for your posting. With this I will try to force this bug on my system to see if I can improve the program, so that in future the deinstallation of asian support may no longer be required.

Cyclone: Yes, I got your mail, but I probably overread your question. Do you have a sample puzzle with so many colours you could send me? I have frozen the current version, so I doubt a new version will be available soon, because I want to do some major changes to the program, like a puzzle database, better memory management on large puzzles, a new (possibly faster) solving algorithm, a new window management on large PAP puzzles (so you can see the clue lines even if scrolled).

I up for the new changes, especially seeing the clues while scrolling. Seeing the colors would be nice too. Tina
