Sometimes I have gotten stuck on a Fill-A-Pix puzzle and the only logical way I can continue is to look for places that could have multiple solutions. Since there can only be one correct solution you can figure out which squares are filled and which are blank. Look at the following example.

For the "1" in the lower right the filled square must be the upper left, otherwise there can me multiple solutions.

I agree it feels a little out of the usual logical flow. Although I find that doing that rarely leads to a long chain of solutions; it still relies on finding something else that would have naturally led to a chain that ends with that final point.

I often use a variation of that technique on the Link-A-Pix puzzles

For example, the 4-4 link has to "hug" the left wall (i.e. from the lower 4, go up/up/right to the other 4).

If it didn't, more than one solution would be possible (because there would be room to move it back and forth).

In general when solving Link-A-Pix puzzles, the "hugging" path, the one that makes the most efficient use of space that can't be used for other links, and doesn't leave "pockets" of unused cells unnecessarily, is logically necessary.
