Filters: Find the puzzles you want easily and quickly

Monday, August 30, 2010 Filters: Find the puzzles you want easily and quickly

Starting today, a set of 3 filters in the Buy puzzles page allows members to select puzzles according to their variant, size and difficulty. Whether you're a casual solver looking for easy Classic Sudoku or an avid picture-logic addict seeking a 60x45 very hard Color Pic-a-Pix, the new filters will help you find specific puzzles you are looking for much easier and faster than before.

How to use the filters

To use the filters, go to any puzzle type in the Play online section and select "Buy" in the upper right navigation (For example Play online > Pic-a-Pix > Buy). You can now filter the puzzles by selecting the desired Variant, Model (which is usually the size) and Difficulty in the Filters dropdown menus.

The 3 filters may be applied concurrently, enabling users to select one filter, two filters or all three at the same time to further narrow down the results. For our user convenience, the number of puzzles found and the selected filter values are shown in the title of the filtered page.

An example

Let’s say you are looking for Pic-a-Pix puzzles which are both color and easy to solve. Select “Color” in the Variant filter. The server will refresh the page according to all Color Pic-a-Pix puzzles available. Now select “Easy” in the Difficulty filter. The server will reload the page again showing all Pic-a-Pix puzzles which are both color and easy.

You can continue narrowing down your selection to a specific puzzle size using the Model filter or start the process again by clicking the “Reset filters” link.

Filter results can be saved as browser bookmarks for future visiting and reference. Below are a few examples for possible filter set-ups. Their results depend on your personal purchase history and only include puzzles which you haven't purchased before. In case no puzzles are available when using bookmarks you will be notified with the message "No puzzles match your request".
