quote: The numbers on the top and left hand side indicate the amount of empty cells in a row or column. ... when the number on the side is smaller than any given number in the row or column, you know how many cells remain empty and so how many you can fill in.
This is exactly what the small number on top or left does mean. In my puzzle "work" before my program existed, I ended up in calculating these numbers for each row and column before beginning. So I found it very useful having them already and integrated them into my program.

This is taken from the read-me file of PicPuz. 1.1.4. non The Nonogram file format is actually a simple ASCII format for black and white Pic-A-Pix puzzles. It consists of some keywords and the appropriate data. Additional keywords don't corrupt the file, so you could add whatever you want. Each keyword can have one or more parameters and is written in a single line (eg. "width 80"). The following keywords are mandatory: - width x Determines the horizontal dimension of the puzzle in squares. x must be an integer numeric value. - height y Determines the vertical dimension of the puzzle in squares. y must be an integer numeric value. - maxrule n This value describes the maximum count of clues in a single row or column available in this puzzle. Though PicPuz doesn't need this value for reading a non file there might be other programs available on the Internet that need this value to read such a file properly. - columns - rows These two describe the actual puzzle clues on top (columns) and left (rows) of the puzzle matrix. These keywords have no parameter in the same line, but are followed by several lines (in fact x lines for columns and y lines for rows), consisting of all numbers in the appropriate column or row, where the clue numbers of one row or column are separated by a comma (,). You should avoid to type blanks in those lines. If a row or column has no blocks at all, give the clue number "0" for that row or column. See the Nonogram files that are installed together with your PicPuz application in your Puzzles folder for further reference. There you can see, how such a file is built. (Consider that some of the non file examples don't have the maxrule keyword set, though it is actually not correct.) The following keywords are optional: - by "text" You can add some credits to your non file, though this information is currently not displayed in PicPuz. text can be any text you like and must be enclosed by double quotation marks ("). - number "xxxx" Each puzzle can have a number PicPuz is showing when opening or previewing a puzzle. This number you can add here. In fact, xxxx can any text you like (even alphanumeric, eg. "P012345") and must also be enclosed by quotes. - title "tttt" The same as number, but for the title or name of the puzzle. In a future version of PicPuz I would like to enhance the non file format for supporting color PAPs also. THIS is new: Color PAPs can be transferred with Yowiefreaks program, see http://www.conceptistech.com/puzzlefans/forum/topic.asp?whichpage=9&ARCHIVEVIEW=&TOPIC_ID=501 (this same thread, page9). This all means, that You have to do it by hand. Hard work, but I've done it. Leena

Sunday, July 24, 2:30PM in U.S. Mountain Time Zone. The PicPuz page is "not found". Is it gone for good or just temporarily unavailable? I am running XP Home, so I'm looking for the setup2.zip file. Thanks.

Hi- I jsut downloaded Oops's PicPuz tonight. Ive been doing the free weeklys for a while, but Im always finished by wednesday. I was on the site looking for puzzles I might have missed and found this forum topic. I was hoping someone wouldn't mind ending me some previous FAPs, LAPs, and PAPs. It seems like your all very nice about doing that for us newcommers. Thanks so much! jmdeb@sbcglobal.net

For the past few days PicPuz Web Loader has been (and still is) refusing to (down)load puzzles. Am I alone with this problem, or is it universal? Bob Allen

My daughter had a "new" computer for her 25-years birthday. New in the sense, that I bought the parts to update the old one, my son built it, and again I installed all the programs. The Webloader worked but it informed that it was unable to download the extra ones (Mosaic etc.) Leena

Spot on Leena, that is exactly what is happening to me! If there is a guru with a solution, I'd be grateful! Bob Allen
