Hi everyone,

We have just pre-released a new family of picture logic puzzles we call Sym-a-Pix. The pages are still not available on the site navigation but you can get to them directly from here http://www.conceptispuzzles.com/index.aspx?uri=puzzle/sym-a-pix

Please give us a hand with some bug testing and feedback?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Gil.  The puzzles look interesting, but when I tried to play one of the examples,  I just got the dots.  The shapes around them didn't show up.

Hi Karen

The puzzles start off as dots, and your job is to build rotationally symmetrical walls around them so that each dot belongs to one block. Did you take a look at the Rules?

Thanks, Dave

Hi Gil,
when I open the puzzles 012900 00001 and 00002 I got the message "Create board error, Error (1502): Error #1502, null" and I can just click a wall one by one but not dragging with the mouse and when a block is formed it doesn't colour in. It shows only a circle around the coulored point. I didn't finish one of these yet because of their size.
But it looks like great fun.
Thanks for all your work

Graubart, could you please try emptying your browser cache and try again?
Thanks,

Hi Gil,
I'm afraid but I did empty the browser cache and tried it again but still there is the same problem. I tried it on different computers (XP and Vista with IE 8 and IE7), but the problem exsist there, too.
On a notebook I get for 01290100001 only the grid without any points, and for 01290100002 there is the grid with the points but doesn't work properly (no dragging, no colouring). On an other PC I still get the board error message but I can dragg the mouse for the walls but still the blocks don't colour in.
Sorry for that news

Hi Graubart, nothing to be sorry about! thanks for taking the effort to report the problem, that's just what we need. I will make sure one of the tech persons takes it from here.

Thanks again,

Hi Graubart

The puzzles you mention are Mega size. What happens when you try to play the smaller ones? Do those work OK for you? If they do, the problem might have something to do with your computer performance or internet connection speed.

Thanks, Dave

I also have trouble with the "Mega" puzzle #01290000001.  Puzzles 01290000000 and 01290000002 seem OK.

The problem appears after clicking Zoom Out ("-" sign).  After a relatively long delay (approaching a minute) I see a smaller grid but the dots are all gone.  If I then Zoom In ("+") I see the larger grid and the dots have returned but the blocks and walls are no longer highlighted.  I can click and create walls but the completed blocks are not filled in (whether or not I've checked that option).

It seemed to be working OK before I did the Zoom.  After "Restarting" this puzzle it still acts the same.

I had previously completed a basic and an advanced Sym-a-Pix without any trouble.

I'm using Firefox 3.5.7 in Windows XP (Pro version 2002, Service Pack 3) with Flash version 10,0,42,34.

Tom

[By the way, I think I'm going to really like this puzzle.  Just what I needed -- yet another addictive puzzle. ]

I also had the 'Create Board Error - 1502' with puzzle 01290000001. Also, I experienced the completed blocks not filling in.
The SAPs seem to take longer to load than PAPs, LAPs, and FAPs of the same size.
I have timed how long it takes the puzzles to load:
SAP 100x60 - 21 seconds
PAP 65x40 - 2 seconds
LAP 120x80 - 7 seconds
FAP 100x60 - 4 seconds

I did not notice any problems with the smaller SAPs.

Here is my software info:
Win XP Home SP3, Opera 10.10, Flash 10,0,42,34.

Very, very cool. I just completed my first one and I can "feel" my brain learning how to look at these puzzles and make them work. Are they an original Conceptis development?

Hi Ginkgo100

Thank you for bringing up this issue. Sym-a-Pix are yet another wonderful invention by Nikoli Japan. Their original name is Tentai Show (a play on the words stars and galaxies). We felt these puzzles could fit well with our Picture-Logic puzzle portfolio and become even more enjoyable when playing online. Nikoli had no objections so we went ahead with this project which took us more than one year to develop.

BTW, I particularly enjoy starting off with the Auto solve starting points and then working with the Auto complete symmetrical walls preference. I find this enables me to focus on the logic and fun stuff. I wonder what others in this forum think.

Thanks, Dave

I can already tell that these will be a new addiction!  I'm on my second one, and I'm fascinated with the new puzzle style. Very great puzzles =D

Dear Dave,
I'm relieved it's not only me having that problem. I phoned some people to look at the puzzle and they have the same Error-problem.
I know this puzzles I have the problem with are mega size. The black and white mega size does work well and the smaller ones too.
The internet connection speed I use is broadband highspeed 3072/384 kbit/s and the actuell download is on cable 100 Mbits/s and at WLAN 54 Mbits/s going down to 48 at these puzzles.
If it is the computer performance what may it be? Perhaps give me a hint or let me know what at least is necessary playing these mega size sym-a-pix puzzles.

I'm eager for a solution

Hi!

I like the new puzzles. I tried to open a Mega to see if I had the same problem, and Firefox froze, I had to close the browser. My OS is Windows xp. The small size puzzles seem to work fine.

After one puzzle and a half, I got tired of completing symmetric walls and turned on the auto-complete symmetric walls feature. It helps a lot. I have not tried the auto-solve starting points, but I don't think I will, I prefer to start the puzzle myself.

I had no trouble accessing or using any of the basic logic level puzzles. The only problem was my brain creaking as it orientated and made the connections necessary to solve the puzzle. Very enjoyable

I think very much of the fun is missed if the symmetrical walls are completed. Rotational symmetry is not as obvious as the symmetry in mirror images and even the obvious symmetrical walls need some thinking at the beginning. Also I like to do these puzzles like FAPs, starting from a suitable place and not moving elsewhere until I don't find any clues there any more. Filling the easy ones in a small area gives me the general impression and the harder clues are easier to follow.

I solved one of the Sym-A-Pix-puzzles with the auto-fill and it was not fun!

I will stick to my habit of no clues in any puzzles. With large puzzles I check now and then but then I use the undo-feature until I come to the place where I did wrong, save the puzzle and come back to it later.

I've always liked my puzzles without hints or auto-complete. In this only occasion that I'm using it, I found very annoying having to mark the obvious walls twice (my mouse is quite bad, I should say). Besides, the auto-complete does not complete everything. If there was a choice between 2 or more center points the first time you clicked on a wall, it leaves the rest empty and allows you to think about it.

By the way, I hope the problems with megas are solved soon, because I really want to try that puzzle with the gorgeous tropical picture.

To all of you who have problems with the Mega puzzles  - Just wanted to let you know that we are working on finding out the cause and to issue a fix as soon as possible.

Please be patient.

Where, and what, is autofill, etc.?  I'd like to know how to use it.  So far, these puzzles aren't really my thing but I'm only on my second one; I'll give it a little more time.
