forgive me if I am in wrong forum. I am new to forum. This is the puzzle in the 10 may houston chronicle created by conceptis.

_ _ _ _ 6 _ _ _ _
_ 4 _ _ _ _ _ 1 _
_ _ 2 7 _1 3 _ _
_ _ 3 _ 1 _ 9 _ _
6 _ _ 8 3 4 _ _ 5
_ _ 1 _ 2 _ 8 _ _
_ _ 5 2 _ 3 6 _ _
_ 1 _ _ _ _ _ 7 _
_ _ _ _ 8 _ _ _ _

25 numbers provided

I can fill only 8 more to get to this point below

1 _ _ _ 6 _ _ _ _
_ 4 _ _ _ _ _ 1 _
_ _ 2 7 _ 1 3 _ _
_ _ 3 _ 1 _ 9 _ _
6 _ _ 8 3 4 1 2 5
4 5 1 _ 2 _ 8 3 _
_ _ 5 2 _ 3 6 _ 1
_ 1 _ _ _ _ _ 7 _
_ _ _ 1 8 _ _ _ _

a4 and b4 have the hidden pair 28, and b5 and c5 have the hidden pair 79

but from this point on, I can find no way to proceed logically. a guess seems absolutely necessary.
Can anyone tell me what the next logical step would be? I would appreciate it very very much

b7 must be 7 (using the middle 3 columns)

yes it should be e7 should be 7. I don't know why I left that out. I have it on my work sheet, e7 is the only place under the 'e' where a 7 is possible. e2 can be 5 or 9. e3 can be 4 5 or 9. e8 can be 4 5 or 9. i will put that in and see if that does any good. thanks much

1 _ _ _ 6 _ _ _ _
_ 4 _ _ _ _ _ 1 _
_ _ 2 7 _ 1 3 _ _
_ _ 3 _ 1 _ 9 _ _
6 _ _ 8 3 4 1 2 5
4 5 1 _ 2 _ 8 3 _
_ _ 5 2 7 3 6 _ 1
_ 1 _ _ _ _ _ 7 _
_ _ _ 1 8 _ _ _ _

this now puts the hidden pair 89 in a7 and b7. since h7 can be 4 8 or 9, that forces h7 to be 9. maybe we are on our way. i will see and respond.
thanks again gww

yes, that little 7 does the trick. and.. I had it on my paperwork. I checked as soon as you mentioned it and yet i was blind to it in looking. i mean, that was simple elimination processes, not even analysis yet. thanks again gww
