I wonder if anyone else is finding the pic-a-pic puzzles too easy now? I understand that Conceptis would want to have some easy ones, to get new people started. This week, though, all 4 puzzles are easy. Why couldn't there be more variety in the difficulty of these every week?

hi bk -

until you mentioned it, I hadn't noticed that this week's PAPs were all easy.  Usually I just print them & solve them (which I haven't done yet).  I never check how hard it's supposed to be - I like to be suprised!

Anyway, maybe since this week many people are going back to school or work from summer holidays, Conceptis thought we needed a little break!

I'll have to check the difficulty level on my other faves - Sudoku, Kakuro & FAPs!

Weeks are different. Either I was distracted last week because of going to work or last week's PAP's were harder than usually.
I got totally stuck with the larger colour PAP and then later had no time to finish it...

I agree, the PAPs are almost always too easy, ever since the new website came on line.  Its extremely disappointing, and I've been searching the internet, hoping to find other sites where there might be more challenging puzzles.

maybe you're just that good, mdavis!

Not sure why, but i found this week's PAPs a bit harder than I should have, I think!  I think my brain was still on vacation, while the rest of me was back at work, and I made silly mistakes.....

I found last weeks easier than advertised and this weeks harder than advertised.  I was actually surprised to see a medium color PAP this week.  Usually the color ones are easy or very easy.  Though the "Easy" rated B&W ones seemed a little bit harder to me.  Or maybe it was just a little more tedious.

I found this week's "medium" colour PaP to be pretty easy, but the first "easy" B&W one (00090100079) has me stuck after only filling in about 20 squares.  Seems it should be rated higher than "easy" ... or else I'm missing something very obvious!  And I can often complete the difficult ones.  But I suppose in general, they've been a little easier than "normal" the last couple months.

I also think that in general, the paps are easier than before. For me it's okay because I don't like the very hard ones.

I think it would be interesting to understand exactly how the puzzle difficulty is rated.  I always expected it to be a mathematically-based system.  Any solver can get a basic idea of how hard a puzzle will be, according to how many large numbers help fill the space, as opposed to a few ones in a long row.  But then there are factors like how many diagonal lines there are, because they build up so nicely upon themselves.

Please, conceptis raters, share your formula, or your list of factors to be considered.

Large numbers don't help so much if they just build up a blob in the middle.  Perhaps more important is how sparse the lines are, or if there are lines you can completely fill in because they just fit.
